History
PhosAgro’s story is one of development. PhosAgro played a key role in restoring the phosphate fertilizer industry in modern Russia. This role means that OJSC Apatit has steadily progressed to become a bulwark in the security of supplies of raw materials for Russia’s mineral fertilizer sector.
2001-2003

In 2001-2003, the OJSC PhosAgro holding company was established along with LLC PhosAgro-Trans company the CJSC PhosAgro AG management company, which assumed the function of coordinating the activities of all of the holding company’s subsidiaries: OJSC Apatit, OJSC Voskresensk Mineral Fertilizers, LLC Balakovo Mineral Fertilizers and the Samoilov Institute. Later, PhosAgro takes over Ammophos - one of the most advanced and powerful Russian producers of phosphate fertilizers. At the time of acquisition, the company was responsible for about one third of all domestic phosphate fertilizer production.
2004

OJSC Cherepovetsky Azot becomes part of the PhosAgro holding company. The two Cherepovets-based subsidiaries – OJSC Cherepovetsky Azot and OJSC Ammophos – are parts of a single technological chain. The holding company sets up its Cherepovets branch to boost integration.

OJSC PhosAgro starts providing financial reporting under IFRS standards.
2005
2006
- ОJSC Voskresensk Mineral Fertilizers spun-off from the PhosAgro holding company.
2007

LLC Agro-Cherepovets becomes part of the PhosAgro holding company.

The PhosAgro holding company becomes one of the initiators of the introduction of exchange trading of mineral fertilizers in Russia. In 2007 the company sold 254,000 tons of fertilizer on the Moscow Stock Exchange. The following year that figure stood at more than 500,000 tons. PhosAgro sees exchange sales and open auctions not only as a convenient mechanism for conducting transactions but also as a way to increase the transparency and reliability of supply contracts, to eliminate middlemen and thus make mineral fertilizers more affordable for the end consumer.
